If someone were writing a textbook for a TV class, within the Simpsons section of the lengthy prime time animation chapter this scene would get its own two or three page insert under the “Anatomy of a Scene” heading, wherein the author takes this scene line by line, explaining how it builds to a climax (and also why they cut out the “hello beautiful” in syndication). Such an elegant scene, and I mean elegant in the linguistics/math/science sense of simple, economical and precise.
